Birds of the McKenzie River
I'll be the first to admit I don't really know much about birds, but I do like watching them. When we moved to the McKenzie River Valley in
Central Oregon, my wife and I tried to find pictures online that would tells us what type of birds we were seeing. NO LUCK. Some bird
names are pretty obvious to bird watchers, but for me the obvious is rather elusive. Since I figured I already have a web site up and
running, it wouldn't be much trouble to take pictures of birds and add those to a page about birds.
If you know what the unknown birds are you can e-mail the name and a short description. Please make note of the picture number. I'll make
the changes to the pages as I get time.
These pages may take a little longer to download because I've made the pictures big enough to see.
If you find these pictures useful you may download them and use them. Just please don't use them for commercial purposes without my
permission.
These pictures are not in any particular order or category. Waterfowl may be mixed in with birds of prey or whatever. Some birds I have
no clue as to their names and habits. If you know you can e-mail me.
Mallards, the male has a green head
and with a white neck band. The
throat/chest is a reddish brown. The
female is gray/brown with white
speckles. The male is probably 12 to
15 inches long. Taken at the
Walterville Pond in Central
Oregon,April 2008.
Robin, I think this one is a
male, but that's a guess.
He is about six to seven
inches long from beak to
tip of the tail. He has an
orange belly with a
grey/black back and head.
The beak is yellow. Taken

I am not a professional photographer by any stretch, but I try. All of these pictures were taken with a Fujifilm
S6000 fd digital camera. That's not an advertisement. It's just what I use.
Wild Turkeys strolling
through a neighbor's yard.
Taken by the Bridge Street
bridge between Walterville
and Leaburg. My best guess
from the range that I took
these pictures is they are
about 24 to 30 inches tall.
Their feathers are brown. April
